To lose is to win.

I saw an interview of a man who is one of the top art restorers in Japan. First he wanted to be a painter but could not make it. While he was looking for something (or nothing), he encountered an ancient art and was moved by its beauty. It was the time he decided to pursue the career of restoring those great works.

He sticks to quality of original materials of them with "listening to a voice of papaers (or other materials)" and even makes papers in the traditional Japanese way. He has also trained lots of young talented restoreres. Some of them have similar backgrounnds that they gave up something about art and found a new way to take advantage of their interest and sensitibity.

This idea of "once gave up, but found a place they can enjoy" seems like falling love with someone. You may not win his or her heart, but finally encounter the right one. Many people use the phrase "Never give up," but I would like to say "You just don't have to give up."
